This Saturday, I was lucky enough to be able to witness LCD Soundsystem’s final show everr from the general admission pit after freezing my ass of to snag literally the last pair of tickets during the Pitchfork pre-sale at Mercury Lounge in January.
Those 4 hours of impending frostbite were entirely worth it though, if only for hearing those opening keys of “All My Friends” live one last time, or once again ending up as the tiniest one in the mosh pit for “Movement,” or “Danc[ing] [My]self Clean” with a couple thousand others, or singing along to “Someone Great,” my personal favorite LCD song, or witnessing James Murphy take his final bow with his band from 8 feet away after singing a song that’s had a real personal connection with me after living in New York the past 4 years. All in all, I think one of the reasons I’m really going to miss this band is because my love affair with them has been relatively short, and I just don’t want it to end.
But all good things must eventually come to an end - I’m just happy I was able to experience it.
